The documentary is an adaptation of the travelogue Djoeka, shot as a silent film in 1932. The footage shows the journey of a group of Dutch people to the Surinamese interior, extensively recording the culture of the Maroons. Karel Doing travelled to the same area in 2010 to present the film to the current residents. He made a soundtrack for the film composed of authentic comments, stories and music.

Re˛issöör Karel Doing

Must-valge ja tumm filmimaterjal, jäädvustatud 1932. aastal hollandlaste poolt Surinamis elavate maroonide juures, on saanud nüüd, ligi kaheksakümmend aastat hiljem, helirea, milleks on tänaste maroonide kommentaarid, mälestused ja muusika.
